Overview

The National Scholarship program is awarded through a highly competitive national selection process. The scholarship recipient will be commissioned as an Naval Officer upon graduation and is obligated to a minimum of 5 years active duty in the U.S. Navy. This time may be longer depending on the assigned designator. The scholarship recipient will receive full tuition and other financial benefits, including class fees, textbook stipend, and a monthly stipend for subsistence. NROTC Scholarships do not pay for room and board or personal items such as computers. However, some universities, such as JU, offer room and board for students attending on the National NROTC Scholarship.

Requirements

Applicants for National NROTC scholarships must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Citizenship: You must be a U.S. citizen.
• Age: You must be 17 by September 1 of the year entering college and under 23 by December 31 of that year. Candidates must not reach their 27th birthday before December 31 of their commissioning year. 
  * An age waiver may be granted for prior active military service, on a month-for-month basis, computed as of 1 September of the year of enrollment in NROTC, provided you will not reach your 30th birthday by 30 June of the year in which graduation and commissioning are anticipated.
• Education: You must be a high school graduate or possess equivalency certificate by August 1 of the year you are applying.
• Commitment: You must have no moral or personal convictions which prevent the bearing of arms in defense of the United States and you must be deemed physically qualified.
• Academic Testing: You must meet one of the following minimums: 
  • SAT test score of 550 verbal / 540 math with a total combined of 1100 or greater
  • ACT test score of 22 English / 21 Math, with a total combined of 44 or greater
  • CLT test score of 72 or greater. 
• College Admission:  You are also responsible for gaining acceptance to a certified NROTC university. Acceptance does not guarantee assignment to that school, so it is recommended that you apply to at least 3 of your desired universities.
• Applicants with College Credits: Students that have more than 30 college credit hours at the time of application submission are not eligible for the National NROTC scholarship and should discuss other options with the Professor of Naval Science at the university which they attended.
•  NROTC Applicant Fitness Assessment (AFA): Applicants must complete an AFA with scores provided by a certified individual (e.g., PE teacher or coach)

Overview

The NROTC Navy Nurse Program combines the pursuit of a nursing bachelor’s degree with the opportunity to receive a commission as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps. Nurse Option Midshipmen participate in physical fitness, naval science courses, and Navy lab sessions to cultivate leadership skills, military knowledge, and an understanding of Navy traditions.

Requirements

The requirements for the Nurse Option Scholarship are the same as the regular Navy Option scholarship with the additional requirements:

• Nursing Program: NROTC Nurse Program Option Midshipmen must be accepted to and enroll in a university that offers the Navy Nurse Program Option. ÐÓ°É offers a renowned nursing program known for its rigorous curriculum, experienced faculty, and commitment to producing highly skilled nursing professionals
• Degree: Must earn a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) while completing the required Naval Science coursework of Nurse-Option Midshipmen.

Overview

The NROTC Marine Corps Program Option provides aspiring Marine Officers the opportunity to complete their studies at a participating college or university while earning a commission in the United States Marine Corps. This program is designed to prepare Marine Option midshipmen for the physically demanding and high-pressure nature of a Marine Corps career. They attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) the summer after their junior year to earn the title of Marine. After earning a Bachelor's, they proceed to The Basic School and receive their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) near completion. While Navy and Marine Option midshipmen are integrated into the same NROTC battalion and participate in physical training, drill, and the core Naval Science classes together, Marine Option midshipmen are expected to participate in Field Exercises, Hikes, and Summer Trainings tailored to their future roles as Marine Officers.

Requirements

Application eligibility requirements for the NROTC Marine Option scholarship are the same as those for the Navy National NROTC scholarship, EXCEPT:

• Minimum Test Scores:
  • SAT: 1000 (combined math and critical reading only)
  • ACT: 22 (composite score)

NROTC Preparatory Scholarships are offered to incoming freshmen who demonstrate strong grades, character, and extracurricular involvement but may have lower test scores or limited coursework. Overview

The College Program allow students to join the NROTC Unit if they have not received one of the above scholarships. College program Midshipmen are treated as regular members of the Unit and take Naval Sciences Courses, participate in physical training, and attend Drill. However, College Program students are not contracted members of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. Students must join the College Program (Basic) prior to the start of their sophomore year, and incur no obligation to the Navy until accepted into Advanced Standing in their junior year. Additionally, College Program (Basic) students can be eligible for three or two-year scholarships.
